This book focuses on a series of minor collections that have received little or no scholarly attention, including the \u003ci\u003eEpitome of the Seventh Century\u003c\/i\u003e, the \u003ci\u003eExcerpta Anonymi \u003c\/i\u003e(tenth century), the \u003ci\u003eExcerpta Salmasiana \u003c\/i\u003e(eighth to eleventh centuries), and the \u003ci\u003eExcerpta Planudea \u003c\/i\u003e(thirteenth century). Three aspects of these texts are analysed in detail: their method of redaction, their literary structure, and their cultural and political function.
